> In the first part, it first explains that due to that greedy love, it serves as a condition for afflictions. Regarding "called pursuing grasped things": due to that greedy love, it leads the afflictions to pursue their own grasped objects. Next, it explains the four ties as conditions for generating karma. The Supplement says: Formerly called the four bonds, they are now called the four ties. However, this differs from the Abhidharma; that \[tradition\] explains that the bond of greed applies to the three realms and is severed across the six and five \[stages\], whereas now we take only the desire realm's mental stage, where greed and hostility arising from discrimination are severed by two \[paths\]. The bond applies to the six consciousnesses, but now we take only the hostility produced by discrimination in the mental stage severed by two \[paths\]. The attachment to precepts and ascetic practices and the attachment to reality also apply to the three realms, but now we take only those produced by discrimination in the desire realm, which are unwholesome in nature, since in the higher realms they are non-discriminative and neutral in nature. These four ties serving as conditions to generate karma are called "things that are intentional objects": karma is the condition for retribution, and if it is called things that are intentional objects, the four ties further serve as conditions for the substance of karma, hence called things conditioned by conditions.
