言生長門義者，舊云輸門義是處義者非也，何以得知？若梵本云阿耶（名生長）特活羅（名門）此云生長門義。若說輸門義者，梵本應名波羅特活羅。二、答後問，為欲三義故立處義，謂十二處中，意是無間緣，五根是增上緣，六境是所緣故。

> Regarding the meaning of "gateway of growth and production": the old rendering that the meaning of "import-export gate" is the meaning of āyatana is incorrect. How is this known? If the Sanskrit text reads \*āya\* (meaning growth and production) \*dvāra\* (meaning gate), this is translated as "gateway of growth and production." If it spoke of "import-export gate," the Sanskrit text would have to be \*pradvāra\*. Second, replying to the latter question: the meaning of āyatana is established for the sake of three meanings, namely that among the twelve āyatanas, mind is the immediately antecedent condition, the five faculties are the dominant condition, and the six objects are the objective condition.
