> Answer: Following Master Guo's explanation, at the stage of mastery the great elements also interchange functions. Therefore we know that when the author of the treatise states that the great elements do not interchange functions, this is also spoken based on the stage where mastery has not yet been attained. Master Xing of Silla says: 'The four great elements are the supports for materiality; materiality is not lucid and sharp, so even upon reaching the stage of mastery they do not interchange functions. The five faculties are the supports for the mind, and the mind is lucid and sharp; if at the stage of mastery the five faculties receive the power of that which relies upon them, they can also interchange functions.'
