> Master Jing’s commentary says: the life faculty is established precisely upon the mind faculty of the ālayavijñāna; the reason it is said to have nothing it belongs to is that this gate is nominally established in terms of the states of karmic-reward form and mind in general, and for this reason it has no specific belonging to one particular \[faculty\]. Now consulting the Vijñaptimātratāsiddhi, the life faculty is established nominally only upon seeds, not upon actual manifestations; hence we know that because this text is not subsumed under the manifesting faculties, it is said to have nothing it belongs to. Another explanation: the life faculty is neither form nor mind, and therefore has nothing it belongs to.
