- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [16.9](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1828.16.9)

> Later it explains the four approaches in sequence. In analyzing the first approach, the text says: 'Relying on the initial approach of accomplishment, the remaining distinctive characteristics not subsumed by that': Jing states: 'This means that, relying on the initial approach of accomplishment, the meanings not subsumed by the other three approaches are called "accomplishment", designated as the remaining distinctions. I shall now explain them: for example, the visual faculty, with respect to the functions of hearing sounds, smelling scents, and so forth, cannot accomplish them, and hence is called "not subsumed by that"; this is an inverted activity.'
