> Question: Why are investigation and reflection the antidote and joy and pleasure the benefit in the first dhyāna; in the second dhyāna, only inner purification is spoken of as the antidote and joy and pleasure as the benefit; in the third dhyāna, the three limbs of mindfulness, equanimity in action, and correct knowledge are established as the antidote and pleasure as the benefit; and in the fourth dhyāna, pure mindfulness and equanimity in action are established as the antidote and neither-pain-nor-pleasure as the benefit, and so forth? As they are all dhyāna stages, why are the antidotes and benefits different in number?
