> Eighth, explaining the locus of severing: this affliction is subtle and is severed all at once by the diamond-like antidote path. Tai says: Regarding "unshared ignorance", Candragomin explains: because the six consciousnesses cognize external objects clearly, views, attachment, and the like are clear and thus strong, while the force of ignorance is weak and arises following views and attachment, possessing conjoined ignorance. Manas cognizes internal unclear objects; the force of ignorance is strong, while views, attachment, and conceit are weak. The functional power of ignorance surpasses that of the other three afflictions, so it is called "unshared". Strictly speaking, views, attachment, conceit, and the like ought to be called "conjoined"; but because the Hīnayāna establishes two kinds of ignorance—conjoined and unshared—unshared is spoken of only in regard to ignorance, while the name "conjoined" is not spoken of in regard to views, attachment, and conceit. Master Śīlabhadra explains: the ignorance of manas \[operates\] with minds of the three natures, whereas the six consciousnesses do not; because it is not shared with the six consciousnesses, it is called "unshared".
