瑜伽論記 19.10

- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [19.10](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1828.19.10)

三梵志者，一、趣向梵志即是四向；二、住果即前三學果；三、到究竟即無學果，梵者西國，言此翻為寂靜，謂涅槃也。志是此方語，志求於梵，故云梵志。

> Regarding the three kinds of brahmacārins (brahmans): first, the brahmacārin who is proceeding toward \[the fruit\], namely the four practitioners proceeding toward the fruits; second, one abiding in the fruit, namely the fruits of the preceding three trainings; third, one who has arrived at the ultimate, namely the fruit of the one beyond training. "Brahman" is a Western word, which translates here as "tranquil," referring to nirvāṇa. "Zhi" (aspiration) is a Chinese word, meaning to aspire to the Brahman; hence one is called a brahmacārin (aspiring to the pure/brahman).
