為性尋思者志多思慮。為性觀察者志多推構，初體是思後體是慧，住尋思地，住自辨地者，地謂所依，依內尋伺外起言辨，并在異生位在思度位，故作是執。

> 'By nature discursive' means that their disposition has much thought and deliberation. 'By nature observant' means that their disposition has much deduction and analysis; the essence of the former is thought (cetanā), and the essence of the latter is wisdom (prajñā). 'Abiding in the stage of discursiveness' and 'abiding in the stage of their own eloquence': 'stage' means that upon which one relies; relying internally on investigation and reflection, externally they produce verbal eloquence, both occurring in the position of ordinary beings (pṛthagjana), in the position of speculative thought; hence they form this clinging.
