> In the exposition of the non-Buddhists, there are six: (1) there is no giving, loving care, or sacrificial offering; (2) there is no good conduct nor karmic fruit and maturation; (3) there is no other world and no this world; (4) there is no mother and no father; (5) there are no spontaneously born sentient beings; (6) there are no true arhats in the world. Regarding 'no giving, no loving care, no sacrificial offering,' Master Xuanzang says: as stated in the Dānasūtra, 'no giving' refers generally to generosity; 'no loving care' corresponds to the field of compassion; 'no sacrificial offering' corresponds to the field of religious instruction. A second explanation says: 'no giving' refers to the field of respect; 'no loving care' refers to the field of compassion; 'no sacrificial offering' refers to objects that are not directly present. A third explanation says: 'no giving' corresponds to those who are not related; 'no loving care' corresponds to those already related; 'no sacrificial offering' corresponds to objects that are not directly present. Regarding 'those free from desire being born in lower stages': if one is already free from desire, one should not be born below. Now, since they are born below, one clearly knows that there is no coming from that world to be born into this world. Under 'no spontaneously born sentient beings,' regarding 'either born in non-conceptual thought, or born in formlessness' and so forth: this is a partial wrong view; because they do not see these three future places of birth, they deny spontaneous birth, but they do not deny all \[rebirth\] because they see the lower stages. Just as 'there is no world' is also partial and does not deny all. Later, in the eighth fascicle and elsewhere, it is said that the intermediate state (antarābhava) is a spontaneously born sentient being; observing it with a concentrated mind versus a distracted mind differs: observing it with this concentrated mind does not deny the intermediate state; observing it with that distracted mind, therefore, denies the intermediate state. Fascicle 58 states: the three beginning with 'no giving' are called slandering causes; 'no good conduct of wisdom' is called slandering function; 'no dual karma and its maturation' is called slandering fruition; 'no father or mother, no spontaneously born sentient beings, and no true arhats' is called destroying actual entities. Fascicle 55 states: from 'no giving' up to 'no good conduct' is called slandering causes; 'no fruit and maturation of good and bad conduct' is called slandering fruition; from 'no this world' up to 'no spontaneously born sentient beings' is called slandering functioning; 'no arhats' is called slandering actual entities.
