- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [5.29](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1828.5.29)

> Eleventh: in the explanation of the Sūtra on Reflecting on the Three Marks, the three marks are: 1. calming; 2. uplifting; 3. equanimity. If one exclusively cultivates calming and uplifting during the preparatory application for concentration, one does not correctly examine dependent origination and so forth; because one does not examine, the mind is not correctly concentrated, one cannot directly realize \[the truths\], and one cannot exhaust all taints. To become an arhat, one frequently reflects on equanimity, and then reflects on dependent origination, until the path of exhausting taints is fully completed.
