> Within the first yoga there are three stages: first, the stage of gotra; second, the stage of entering; third, the stage of the thought of transcendence. It is designated after the first as "the yoga of gotra"; hence the summary verse says "gotra," and so forth. This fascicle completely explains the stage of gotra and the stage of entering. The following four fascicles explain the general purport of the stage of transcendence. Gotra is the gotra that accomplishes the lineage; entering is the expedient means of generating the aspiration and seeking the noble path; transcendence is based on having already entered the noble path; within these, various meanings are universally clarified. In the old treatises, what is now the stage of entering was called the stage of generating the mind, and transcendence was called the stage of expedient practice.
