> Within the first round there are five points: 1. that which can guard and protect, namely the previously analyzed guarding of correct mindfulness, constant and careful correct mindfulness, mindfulness, and the three wisdoms; 2. that which is guarded and protected, which is the six faculties such as the eye, guarding these faculties so that faults do not arise; 3. that from which one guards and protects, namely the conditions of faults, that is, guarding against the faults of the six sense-data; 4. how one guards and protects, namely the marks of guarding against faults, that is, not grasping signs and secondary marks regarding forms and so forth; 5. the actual guarding and protecting, namely the time of guarding against faults, which is when the six consciousnesses practice in the state of equanimity.
