Schools such as \[the Sarvāstivāda\] judge that what transforms is the supernormal knowledge itself, whereas the mind that manifests is not the supernormal knowledge but merely the fruit of the supernormal knowledge. Now the Mahāyāna judges that manifestation is both the fruit of supernormal knowledge and subsumed under supernormal knowledge. Furthermore, the Hīnayāna judges that supernormal knowledge is wholesome, whereas the mind that manifests is neutral. The Mahāyāna is not like this: the mind that manifests extends to both wholesome and neutral; if manifested to benefit others, it is wholesome, while if casually giving rise to a manifestation, it is merely neutral.
