If prior to that, one is not able to do so. Furthermore, if correct preparatory practice is also attained on the grounds (bhūmi), that is, the preparatory wisdom of the bodhisattva on the grounds can conform to severing the two obstructions—meaning, just as the first bhūmi can conform to severing the obstructions of the second bhūmi to purify and heighten body and mind—why could it not be attained? Therefore, one knows it can also be on the grounds; adopting the former explanation poses no problem. Below, three similes are given. Jing states: The heating of an ulcer similes the two obstructions being severable; next, the firing of an earthenware vessel similes the path being cultivable; the ripening of various fruits similes bodhi being realizable.
