Multiplying by tens, a lakṣa corresponds to one hundred thousand (yì), an atilakṣa corresponds to one million, and a koṭi corresponds to ten million. However, in the West there are four kinds of yì: first, one hundred thousand is an yì; second, one million is an yì; third, ten million is an yì; fourth, one hundred million is an yì. Now, the Yogācāra and Prakaraṇāryavācā count one million as an yì, and ten yì as a koṭi; hence they say one hundred koṭis constitute one Buddha-land. The Avataṃsaka takes ten million as an yì, calling it one million yì. The Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa takes one hundred thousand as an yì, calling it ten billion (one hundred yì).
