第三門中，七例句者，即八轉聲，除第八呼。汎聲有三：一、男；二、女；三、非男女。一一各有八：一、體；二、業；三、具；四、為；五、從；六、屬；七、依；八、呼。今此即是男聲中之一聲，詮目丈夫之七囀聲，如次配屬體、業、具等。如《樞要》說。第八汎聲醞補盧沙，更無別義，今但說七。

> In the third section, the "seven paradigm phrases" are the eight case-endings (vibhaktis), excluding the eighth, the vocative. In general nouns, there are three \[genders\]: first, masculine; second, feminine; third, neuter. Each has eight \[cases\]: first, nominative (the entity); second, accusative (the action); third, instrumental (the instrument); fourth, dative (for the sake of); fifth, ablative (from); sixth, genitive (belonging to); seventh, locative (in/on); eighth, vocative (calling). Here, this is one nominal form among masculine nouns, expressing the seven vibhaktis designating a man (puruṣa), correlated in order with the nominative, accusative, instrumental, etc., as explained in the \*Shuyao\*. The eighth general noun, \*he puruṣa\*, has no distinct meaning, so only seven are mentioned here.
