> The treatise says: "Abiding in this abode, regarding the non-arising of phenomena, one realizes the foremost, most supremely pure tolerance." The first bhūmi also attains the tolerance of the non-arising of dharmas; what is the difference between the two? Answer: As in the sixth fascicle of the Prakaraṇāryavācā: there are three kinds of tolerance of non-arising: regarding the parikalpita-nature, it is called the tolerance of original non-arising; regarding the paratantra, it is called the tolerance of spontaneous non-arising; regarding the pariniṣpanna, it is called the tolerance of non-arising free from the defilement of suffering. In the first bhūmi, because one realizes the severance of the two kinds of conceptual grasp, it is called attaining the tolerance of original non-arising. From the eighth bhūmi upward, both ultimate and conventional operate simultaneously, and one attains the two tolerances of spontaneous non-arising and non-arising free from the defilement of suffering. Furthermore, from the eighth bhūmi upward, because one realizes the pure observation of suchness of a single flavor, it is called attaining the non-arising free from the defilement of suffering; prior to this, one realizes and attains the other tolerances of non-arising. Furthermore, prior to this, one attains the tolerance of non-arising regarding portioned \[birth and death\]; from the eighth bhūmi upward, one realizes the tolerance of non-arising regarding transformative \[birth and death\]. Furthermore, the first bhūmi and so forth has the tolerance of non-arising of not entering evil destinies; from the eighth bhūmi upward, it is the tolerance of non-arising where contaminated mind does not arise intermittently.
