> The treatise says: 'One should know that herein, the wind of in-and-out breathing is named the bodily formation.' They grasp that bodily activity depends on wind, and therefore attains continuity. For example, in one who is strangled to death, the wind of in-and-out breathing does not circulate or pass through, and therefore it is called death. Furthermore, with wind as primary, bodily karma and so forth are caused to function. There are two meanings here. Another explanation: these are both one single explanation. Stating that the wind of in-and-out breathing is called bodily \[formation\] is the ultimate presentation; from 'wind as the guide' downward explains the reason. It is necessarily due to the presence of wind that bodily karma then functions.
