> Regarding 'according to what is appropriate, they serve as the support for the six consciousnesses': this does not only refer to the active consciousness produced from the seed of consciousness among the five seeds, for that is solely the eighth consciousness. Therefore, fascicle ninety-three and the following text speak generally based on the entire continuum, naming the six consciousness groups, showing the meaning that it speaks generally of the consciousness of a single lifespan. 'Name-and-form is conditioned by consciousness' because it is held and maintained by consciousness, and consciousness is the support; 'consciousness is conditioned by name-and-form' because it leans upon them as support, or contemplates them as objects.
