> \[Regarding\] the Bhūmi of Cultivation Accomplishment (Bhāvanāmayī Bhūmi): equipoise is called cultivation, which is precisely the mental factor of concentration among the determinative states. If the meaning of practice applies generally to the wisdom of hearing and contemplating, cultivation means realization, hence it refers solely to equipoise. Wisdom generated due to cultivation is called wisdom arisen from cultivation; all conditioned and unconditioned virtues accomplished through the wisdom arisen from cultivation are called accomplished by cultivation, all of which constitute the essence of this bhūmi. The main text is divided into two: first, questions, and then answers. In the answers there are three parts: first, listing the four grounds; second, extensively explaining them by subsuming them into the seven factors; finally, collectively concluding the Bhūmi of Cultivation Accomplishment. In the extensive explanation subsumed into the seven factors, it first lists the seven factors in summary, and then differentiates their characteristics in detail. The first text has three parts: first, indicating; second, listing; third, concluding. “Ground” refers to basis: cultivation only reaches fullness by relying on the grounds of the four meanings. First, the “basis”, wherein internal constitution and external conditions must be fully complete; second, the “causes and conditions”, which are the expedients of practicing mundane and supramundane cultivation; third, “cultivation yoga”, which is the intrinsic essence of actual cultivation; fourth, the “fruits of cultivation”, which are the fruits of conditioned and unconditioned virtues, mundane and supramundane, obtained through cultivation. Regarding the “subsumption under the seven factors”: first, “perfection of birth”, which is the basis of cultivation; second, “hearing the true Dharma”; third, “having nirvāṇa as the foremost”; fourth, “achievement of the wisdom that matures liberation”—these three combined are called the causes and conditions of cultivation; fifth, “cultivating the antidotes”, called cultivation yoga; sixth, “mundane purification”; and seventh, “supramundane purification”, which are called the fruits of cultivation. In the extensive explanation of the seven factors, because they are subsumed under the four grounds, it is divided into four. In the first—the basis of cultivation that is the perfection of birth—the text is divided into three: first, discerning the perfection of birth; next, the grounds of cultivation yoga that can subsume the four factors; finally, concluding the perfection of birth, expanding the meaning of the noble teachings without increase or decrease. The first text again has three parts: first, questioning and indicating the ten kinds; next, presenting each individually; finally, concluding as a whole.
