> Within the four perceptions of light and so forth, there are two \[parts\]: first, clarifying the four kinds of things to be cured; and last, clarifying the four perceptions. Third, as for cultivating the perception of cessation in order to counteract the mind with the perception of following change with respect to birth-and-existence: conditioned dharmas undergo arising, cessation, and fluctuation, which is called the characteristic of birth and movement. Now, seeing that characteristic is called having the perception of following change with respect to birth-and-existence. Therefore, to cure this, one cultivates the perception of cessation, because it is free from fluctuation. Alternatively, frequently giving rise to joy and pleasure regarding rebirth that continually comes is called the perception of following change. To counteract this, cultivating the perception of cessation means that future existence will not arise and there is no intention of delighting in it. Although there are two explanations, the former interpretation is superior.
