> "Or there are deluded thoughts, giving rise to self, what belongs to self, and conceit: 'I will exist or not exist,' 'I will have form or be formless,'" and so forth: this is termed the temporary arising of deluded thoughts in one who has seen the truths, not the views among the sixty-two views. If they were views among the sixty-two views, "I will exist" would be eternalism; how could a person who has seen the truths give rise to deluded views? There is no text stating that eternalism arises on the path of cultivation, so if it were to arise here, what delusion would that be? Furthermore, this arises at the stage of an ordinary person; because one has not yet seen the truths, there is no contradiction. If so, how could one who has previously seen the truths and performs these sixteen superior practices give rise to eternalism and the like? The meaning is: ordinary persons also perform these sixteen practices. The prior mention of "one who has seen the truths" was discussed with reference to a person who has seen the truths, not to encompass ordinary persons, but in reality it extends to ordinary persons. For this \[person\], giving rise to eternalism and the like is nevertheless superior.
