> The Commentary states: This is the fourth objection: that if atoms lack a middle and exterior, the atomic aggregate would not be different \[in size from a single atom\]. If they lack the juxtaposed directions of east, west, and so forth, all atoms should interpenetrate and coalesce into a single substance, and thus coarse \[matter\] would not be formed. The Viṃśatikā says: 'When an atom joins with six, one must have six parts; if it is in the same place as the six, the aggregate must be like an atom.' The first half refers to the preceding \[argument\], and the second half refers to this one. Because of this, atoms definitely have spatial parts; hence the Abhidharmakośa says: 'Whether touching or not touching, all must have parts.'
