- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [4.281](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1830.4.281)

> The Commentary states: The text below has four parts: first, refuting the claim; second, stating the correct meaning; third, explaining bodily experience; fourth, establishing the vipāka mind. The first has two parts: first, a general refutation; later, a specific refutation. Taking these as two reasons, it establishes two syllogisms to debate the entity of vipāka. Among the six evolving consciousnesses, those produced by karma are not the true vipāka mind; because they are renewed after interruption, and because they are occasionally interrupted; just like lightning, nourished form, and the like. If one did not specifically say 'produced by karma,' there would be the fault of partial agreement with the opponent (aṃśato siddhasādhyatā), because their wholesome and unwholesome minds are said not to be vipāka. If one did not say 'true vipāka mind,' it would contradict one's own school, which itself states that they are born of vipāka (vipākaja). Or generally negating the six consciousnesses: they should not be the true vipāka mind; because they are not at all times the fruit of karma; just like lightning and the like, or because they have interruptions and are renewed after interruption. These reasons all universally negate the six consciousnesses, saying that among these consciousnesses one should not say there is a true vipāka mind; hence there is no fault of agreement with the opponent.
