- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [5.551](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1830.5.551)

> The Commentary states: This is a sūtra mutually accepted by both Mahāyāna and Hīnayāna. It is not named the Vimuktisūtra because it explains the meaning of liberation (vimukti); rather, miscellaneous sūtras not subsumed within the four Āgamas are possessed by all schools, such as the Devatā-sūtra and others, all of which are not subsumed within the Āgamas. Because this sūtra is liberated from (detached from) the Āgamas, it is called the Vimuktisūtra; to call it a "scattered sūtra" would be an unpleasant name. The prose text itself explains this verse.
