- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [6.237](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1830.6.237)

> The Commentary states: This is the second meaning. Among all the remaining defiled phenomena, each has distinct characteristics, such as greed, attachment, and the like. Among the defiled mental factors, only lack of faith has an intrinsic characteristic that is turbid and muddy; it makes the other minds and so forth turbid, causing them to become defiled. Just as an extremely filthy thing is itself foul and fouls others, and also just as a loach muddies clear water, lack of faith is also like this. It is a single distinct characteristic that turbidly fouls and defiles, receiving the general defilement. Faith directly reverses that turbidity of lack of faith; therefore, it has purification as the characteristic of faith. Below, the refutation has two parts, as is evident from the text.
