- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [7.543](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1830.7.543)

> The Commentary states: This elaborates on the previous support. Because one originally grasps in delusion at objects such as form, perversions and the like arise; if form and the like were absent, perversion would not exist. "Perversion" refers to the various consciousnesses taking this objective form as condition and giving rise to false grasping; this is called perversion. Because there would be no perversion of these consciousnesses, there would be no defilement. Defilement refers to defilement, karma, and rebirth; or, the essence of perversion is itself defilement, karma, and rebirth. Because these would be absent, there would be no defilement of the two hindrances. Because the defilement of the two hindrances would be absent, uncontaminated purity would also be absent. With nothing to be severed, how could there be purity?
