For instance, the fourth fascicle of the Abhidharmasamuccaya-vyākhyā states that heterogeneous and homogeneous active manifestations mutually serve as cause-conditions: there, the Abhidharmasamuccaya-vyākhyā, in discussing cause-conditions, states that the six causes are cause-conditions, which is active manifestation in relation to active manifestation; and if other places state this, they are all metaphorical designations of cause-conditions, being in truth conditioning conditions, etc. 'Or it is an accommodating pedagogical device': this conforms to the Sarvāstivādin teaching that the five causes such as co-existent cause are cause-conditions.
