Although mental factors and mind constantly operate together, because they are associated, their concord resembles a unity: they have the same cognitive object, the same basis, operate at the same time, and are subsumed under the same nature, so they cannot be separated to make them distinct. They are not like the eight consciousnesses, whose ākāras, cognitive objects, and bases are each different, and thus do not serve as mutual conditions.
