- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [8.167](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1830.8.167)

> The Commentary states: This second master applies 'person' generally to dharmas; hence it is obtained by eight causes. It is only not obtained by the cause of verbal expression, as stated in the previous section on the bases; the rest can be understood. Because it merely makes manifest and is not capable of generating, and that which is capable of generating and that which is generated constitute this fruit. That being so, it is obtained by the remaining three conditions, excluding the objective condition (ālambana-pratyaya). External dharmas lack the function of a person; hence it is not obtained by the objective condition. The immediate \[condition\] is also termed purposive effort. The breadth and narrowness of the bases are as already stated above; it is just that there is no purposive effort that is non-generative.
