> Answer: There are four explanations (as recounted in the Yaoji). The first says that the Tathāgata has a signless, perfect voice: because it is signless, the Buddha utters a single voice; because it is perfect, it universally responds to sentient beings. This answer is incomplete, because it says that it does not possess \[all teachings\]. Another says that the Tathāgata utters only a single voice, without it being known what its name is, yet within the minds of sentient beings, immeasurable approaches to the Dharma are heard. (This answer is not correct, because it does not answer the question, and it is also identical to what the tīrthikas Laozi and Zhuangzi say.) Another says that the Tathāgata, in accordance with those being converted, simultaneously possesses boundless approaches to the Dharma; in accordance with those who are primary recipients, it is called a single voice. The meaning of this is that the single voice possesses all approaches to the Dharma, and in accordance with those who are primary recipients, each individual sentient being is called "a single voice".
