> The treatise states: "Truly realizing the two kinds of emptiness, truly severing the two hindrances," etc. It is transmitted that the Tripiṭaka Master's explanation contains twenty-five interpretations combining the two teachers of sudden and gradual \[severance\]. First, the teacher of gradual severance has fourteen interpretations: and divided into three grades each of the afflictive and cognitive \[hindrances\], there are five explanations in all. The first says that within each of the three grades, first severing the three grades of afflictions, each has an uninterrupted \[path\] and a \[path of\] liberation, making six mind-\[moments\]. Next, severing the cognitive \[hindrance\], since an uninterrupted path of a different kind arises, an advanced path (viśeṣamārga) is generated, adding one mind-\[moment\], making seven mind-\[moments\] in all. Next, severing the three grades of the cognitive \[hindrance\] also has six mind-\[moments\]; wishing to enter the path of seeing with marks, one generates one advanced path, likewise making seven mind-\[moments\] in all. In combination, fourteen mind-\[moments\] bring the true path of seeing to completion. Why does one generate an advanced path when entering \[the path of seeing\] with marks? Because the path of seeing with marks has never been attained before.
