> If the specific-object discernment is named 'round wisdom', it is also not a tatpuruṣa, because the master is not wisdom. Because this specific-object discernment is the intrinsic characteristic of wisdom, it is strictly a karmadhāraya compound. However, the varying explanations in various sūtras and śāstras each rely on a single perspective. For instance, when the Buddhabhūmi-śāstra states, 'The eighth pure consciousness of the Tathāgatas can manifest and generate reflections of wisdom and the like, just as a great round mirror,' it is based on its capacity directly to generate the reflections of real bodies and lands, and because associated wisdom and the like rely on it to transform, not because they maintain bījas; hence it speaks only of the pure consciousness and not of mental factors. If one speaks based on the underlying substance and the image, combining the nominal and the real, it extends to all mental factors also being able to manifest and generate reflections of all objective aspects (nimittabhāga). When the fourth fascicle of the Buddhabhūmi speaks of 'pure consciousness', it relies on the former meaning; here in this Śāstra, it discusses nominal and real together, because it is identifying the essence collectively, and thus it is a general statement. At the end of the Śāstra it concludes that these four classes of wisdom subsume all virtues, excluding only the unconditioned, because it speaks of what is obtained through birth, and because nature and characteristics are distinct.
