> According to that treatise (\*Yogācārabhūmi\*): Establishing atoms has five distinct benefits. Namely, by means of the provisional method of breaking down an aggregate of matter, one can cultivate pure and vast practice with respect to the cognitive domain; this is the first benefit. Again, one can gradually eradicate the view of individuality (satkāya-dṛṣṭi); this is the second benefit. Just as one can gradually eradicate the view of individuality, so one can surely gradually eradicate arrogance; this is the third benefit. Again, one can gradually subdue the entanglements of the afflictions; this is the fourth benefit. Again, one can swiftly eliminate all characteristics (nimitta); this is the fifth benefit.
