> Answer: There is no text in the Mahāyāna, but practitioners of the Hīnayāna have transmitted an explanation saying: Suppose there is a dharma that has never been lost before, or has been re-attained and is only now lost for the first time. When the non-attainment of this dharma has just arrived at the characteristic of arising and is about to not be achieved, it is said to be 'non-acquisition.' When it has flowed into the present, it is called the time of 'non-achievement.' However, at the time of non-acquisition it is not yet called non-achievement, and at the time of non-achievement it is not called non-acquisition.
