### [6.12](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1833.6.12)

> Carefully evaluated: If there are six consciousnesses, how could the simile be established? Because the substance of the four aggregates that are the illustrated subject is posited as one. If they are identical in cognition, differentiated into six according to stages, but in reality their substances are distinct, then the aggregates compared would have the same meaning of aggregate and be differentiated into four according to stages, so their substances ought to be distinct respectively, just like the consciousnesses that serve as the simile. Because of this error, they posit that their substance is one. Even if this was not their original position, they modified their thesis in response to the preceding objection, not to mention that sūtras and treatises explain the poem of one citta.
