> Carefully evaluated: The former interpretation is superior. Why is this so? The Yogācārabhūmi says: 'Furthermore, another sūtra says: Such phenomena are always harmonious together. And the World-Honoured Buddha, wishing to establish this meaning of harmony, taught the simile of the lamp's light.' If it is according to the latter interpretation, the simile would not be pervasive, because the lighting of lamps may be one or many, and is indeterminate; whereas the lamp's light and the wick necessarily accompany each other, exhausting the meaning of harmony.
