唯識二十論述記 1.233

- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [1.233](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1834.1.233)

> The commentary says: This explains the first three lines of the verse. Observing their aptness, he spoke intentionally; the ten bases such as form are not distinct and substantially real. How is it according to their aptness? The sentient beings to be transformed grasped a substantially real self; in order to shatter their grasp of a self, he spoke of the ten \[bases\] such as form to cause them to eliminate the view of a single real entity. Thus the verse in the older translation says: 'The teaching on the existence of the entrances (āyatana) such as form was to guide those who grasp at a person,' which is just what this verse means by saying that he spoke of form and so forth based on the aptness of those to be guided.
