- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [1.76](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1837.1.76)

> "Fifth, regarding the distinction among the three natures: the three natures are the wholesome, the unwholesome, and the indeterminate. The six consciousnesses such as the cakṣur-vijñāna encompass all three natures. The seventh, the manas, encompasses two natures, namely, the wholesome nature and the indeterminate nature: at the causal stage it is of the indeterminate nature; at the resultant stage and when entering meditative contemplation, one should know that it is of the wholesome nature. The eighth, the ālaya-vijñāna, also encompasses two natures, namely, the ripened indeterminate and the wholesome nature: at the causal stage it is the ripened indeterminate; at the resultant stage it is wholesome. This concludes the brief examination of the eight consciousnesses above."
