> Among the semblances of valid proof (sādhanābhāsa), regarding the nine semblances of the proposition (pakṣābhāsa): In treatises such as the Nyāyamukha, Bodhisattva Diṅnāga established five kinds and did not mention the latter four, namely: the unestablished predicate (viśeṣaṇāsiddha), the unestablished subject (viśeṣyāsiddha), both being unestablished (ubhayāsiddha), and established by consensus (siddhasādhana). This is because the Nyāyamukha states that the proposition and so forth are multiple statements called valid proof, and herein one only takes what is intended by oneself as the thesis to be proved, which is called the proposition, provided it is not subverted by an incompatible meaning. Since the latter four are not incompatible, they were omitted. The Master Śaṅkarasvāmin's faults of the proposition are not only incompatibilities; hence he sets forth nine kinds.
