- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [2.35](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1840.2.35)

> That treatise also says: 'If, as in the case of sound, both meanings are mutually accepted, neither need be stated; or, through implication, one can reveal both.' 'Sound' refers to the subject (dharmin), and the reason (hetu) of being produced exists based on this sound. If the opponent and the witness, upon hearing this thesis and reason, mutually accept both meanings upon sound, they will immediately understand the meaning of the two examples on the reason, and neither the affirmative nor the negative example need be stated. Alternatively, if the proponent has already stated one example, and by implication it reveals both so that the opponent and the witness give rise to understanding, one states only one. The meaning of the above is: not stating either, or stating either one, or stating both completely—all are acceptable according to the capacity of the audience at the time.
