That which is ridden is the Great; it is the Great ridden by the rider, or the vehicle of the Great. Hence karmadhāraya, tatpuruṣa, and ṣaṣṭhī-tatpuruṣa are all applicable. Second, the pair of that which gives rise and that which is given rise to: the Mahāyāna is that which gives rise, and faith is that which is given rise to; that is, the awakening of faith of the Mahāyāna, a ṣaṣṭhī-tatpuruṣa compound. Third, the pair of that which believes and that which is believed: faith is that which believes, and the Mahāyāna is that which is believed. That which is believed is the Mahāyāna, the believing of the Mahāyāna; both karmadhāraya and ṣaṣṭhī-tatpuruṣa compounds. Fourth, the pair of that which is expressed and that which expresses: the awakening of faith in the Mahāyāna is that which is expressed, and the treatise is that which expresses.
