> From 'not arising and ceasing' downward is the second \[section\]: revealing the gate of tathatā. The preceding gate was based solely on the absolute, obliterating expresser and expressed, and being free from nature and marks; hence it said 'empty and vast, profound and desert-like, etc.' The present gate reveals non-arising and non-ceasing in contrast to arising and ceasing, establishing the true in dependence on the false; hence it is called the gate of tathatā. That is, the text setting forth the meaning below says: 'The mark of this mind's tathatā reveals the essence of the Mahāyāna.' Therefore the explanatory text says: 'Mind-tathatā is the essence of the great general-mark teaching-gate of the one dharmadhātu, namely that the mind-nature is unproduced and unceasing.' And so forth, down to: 'Because it is a realm free from thought, corresponding only to realization.' The present commentary recounts that \[passage\], hence it says 'not arising and ceasing, etc.'
