- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [10.51](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1848.10.51)

> The Treatise: In \[the mirror of\] the third, there are two: first, indicating the name and presenting the essence. The Commentary says: "Meaning that tathatā..." and below explains this present passage. "Previously when in..." and below distinguishes the preceding and following. Purity of nature is the first meaning; being non-empty is the second meaning. Tathāgatagarbha: because those two are within the defilements, they are generally named the tathāgatagarbha, differing only in being empty and non-empty. Now clarifying "non-empty" and so forth is identical in meaning with the preceding non-empty. Dharmakāya: identical in essence with the preceding tathāgatagarbha, but differing in meaning; that one was concealed while this one is revealed. Therefore it previously said: "Relying on the dharmakāya, original enlightenment is spoken of." Later it says: "It is named the tathāgatagarbha, and it is also named the Tathāgata's dharmakāya." However, the dharmakāya belongs only to the third mirror; the subsequent one mirror is precisely the reward and transformation bodies. The Ratnagotravibhāga and below cites proof. "Shared mark": because it is common to ordinary beings and āryas. "Superior mark": because it is superior to the cause. However, the initial purity is the previous two meanings, and the subsequent purity is the latter two meanings. "Presenting the essence of the dharma": this is precisely the dharma that was previously the two causes. Therefore it previously said: "Meaning truly non-empty" and so forth. Now, clarifying liberation from hindrances, it refers back to it.
