Good roots refer to faith developing successively, capable of generating the branches, leaves, flowers, and fruits of understanding, practice, and realization, hence it is said to "increase." If they "see," they either see his form or behold spiritual transformations; as described before, manifesting differential forms and matters causes those who see them to rejoice and give rise to good, destroy evil and enter principle, up to the benefits of the one, two, three, or four \[types of good\], and so forth. Thus the Vimalakīrti\[-nirdeśa\] states: "Some are terrified, some rejoice, some give rise to revulsion, or some sever doubts, and so forth."
