> "Conditioned by what?" asks what matter is the fundamental condition for the above undertaking. "To cause sentient beings" refers to all sentient beings of the three groups and the five natures. "To leave all suffering" means leaving the three sufferings and the eight sufferings, as well as the suffering of the two kinds of birth and death: samsaric death in portions and inconceivable transformation death. "To attain ultimate bliss" means attaining the bliss of realizing the Dharma of unexcelled bodhi and the tranquil bliss of unexcelled nirvāṇa. Once attained, it is attained forever, with nothing superior to it; it is distinguished from \[the attainments of\] humans, devas, and the two vehicles, and is therefore called "ultimate."
