> "Paramārtha..." and so forth was also named Guṇarata, which is translated here as Qin-yi (relying intimately). "Emperor Yuan of Liang..." and so forth: this Tripiṭaka master met Emperor Wu of the Liang in the Baoyun Hall in the second year of Taiqing, a wuchen year. The Emperor decreed that he translate sūtras. From the second year of Taiqing up to the third year of Chengsheng under Emperor Yuan, a jiaxu year, at the Zhengguan and other temples, he translated eleven works in twenty fascicles, including the Suvarṇaprabhāsa, the Maitreyavyākaraṇa, and the Awakening of Faith. This treatise was translated on the tenth day of the ninth month of that year at Jianxing Temple in Hengzhou together with eminent sages of the capital such as Huixian and Zhikai, along with translating the profound text of the śāstra's purport in twenty fascicles. Meeting with the rebellion of Hou Jing, he wished to take a ship and return west, but encountering adverse winds, he was blown back. The governor of Guangzhou detained him at Zhizhi Temple, requesting him to translate sūtras and śāstras. From the first year of Yongding under the Chen dynasty to the first year of Taijian, a yiyou year, he further translated the Fo Abitan lun, the Kośa-śāstra, and so on. In total across the Liang and Chen dynasties, he translated thirty-four works of sūtras and śāstras in one hundred and forty-one fascicles. "Broadly learned": among the vast multitude of canonical collections and extensive scriptures, there were none he did not keep in mind; in arts and diverse interpretations, he was thoroughly skilled and familiar. "Miraculous": he would spread his mat to cross rivers, or face midsummer heat without sweating. The rest is as in the commentary's text.
