> From "If it is in..." downward is the second part, showing \[it\] by contrast. It means that when this mind accords with defilement, it is said to harmoniously combine with arising and ceasing. Now, in the stage of the Buddha, it is purely clean and without defilement, solely non-arising and non-ceasing; therefore it has no meaning of harmonious combination. From "Because the actualized..." downward provides the reason, revealing that there are no marks of arising and ceasing; hence it says "it is solely tathatā." Since those marks are absent and it is only the one reality, in reference to what could one speak of combination? Therefore the \*Madhyamaka-śāstra\* says: "How could one single dharma combine?" The text below clarifying the Buddha ground says: "Breaking the mark of the consciousness of harmonious combination and extinguishing the mark of the continuing mind, the dharmakāya is manifested because wisdom is purely clean." As for "the revealed meaning": the meaning of the three greatnesses only becomes manifest from this point onward; when the marks of arising and ceasing are absent, it is confined solely to purity, and therefore there is no harmonious combination.
