The Commentary explains: "At the causal stage": because in the causal stage one cannot yet directly contemplate the true principle of no-thought, one can only contemplate the principle of no-thought; this is spoken with respect to prior to the bhūmis. However, because no-thought is the buddha stage, that which can contemplate this is the wisdom directed toward the buddha stage. It is also possible that the word "wisdom" extends to the object of contemplation, which would mean directed toward buddha-wisdom; hence the later translation says: "Being able to contemplate that all false thoughts are markless is the realization and attainment of the Tathāgata's wisdom." "Because of this..." below clarifies the intention of citing the sūtra. Since the sūtra states that one who contemplates no-thought is directed toward buddha-wisdom, one should know that the fruit of buddhahood is definitely free of thought.
